The world changed 50 years ago this Sunday, February 9th, 1964, when those four lovable mop tops from Liverpool, England, The Beatles, performed for the first time on The Ed Sullivan Show. To celebrate that milestone, CBS will air a two-hour special starting at 8 p.m. ET, the same time the Sullivan show aired each week on the network.
The Night That Changed America: A Grammy Salute to The Beatles features archival footage interwoven with performances taped last month in Los Angeles by Joe Walsh, Jeff Lynne, Dave Grohl, John Mayer, Katy Perry, John Legend, Alicia Keys, Keith Urban and many others. Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr were in the audience and then did sets of their own as well as together. And, what will make this special truly special is earlier this week, Paul and Ringo returned to the Ed Sullivan Theater in Manhattan for an interview with David Letterman, whose show is staged there, and that will be part of Sunday’s broadcast.
